Why that grade Cashback rate ranges are drawn from published card and portal rates; the annual dollar-figure estimate is a modeled calculation based on typical spending patterns, not an audited figure. Course-seller index 0/10.
Figures are researched estimates, not guarantees. Check local rules before you trade.
Why anybody pays for this
Cashback portals earn an affiliate commission from retailers for referring a purchase, and share a portion of that commission back with the shopper — a genuine, if small, three-way value split.
This is educational information, not a return projection. For someone already spending normally, stacking a cashback credit card with a cashback portal can realistically add $200-600/year on planned spending.
Good fit if
Anyone doing routine online shopping who's willing to click through a portal first.
Skip it if
Nobody in particular — this carries essentially no downside, but shouldn't be mistaken for a meaningful income source.
What actually goes wrong
The main risk is a cashback tracker failing to register a purchase (which happens often enough to require active follow-up) or, rarely, a cashback portal becoming insolvent while holding your accrued balance.
Cashback tracking fails often enough that you need to actively dispute missing cashback.
It only 'pays' on money you were spending anyway — this doesn't generate new income.
